Menderes Kutlu was a Turkish professor in the field of political science. He was shot and killed on January 17, 1990, in Ankara, Turkey. The murder was believed to be politically motivated, as Kutlu was known for his left-wing views and criticisms of the Turkish government. Two members of a far-right organization were later convicted for his murder and sentenced to life in prison. Kutlu's death was widely mourned by intellectuals and left-leaning activists in Turkey and sparked further debates on political violence and extremism in the country.
